A man with gray hair and glasses speaking into a microphone on a dark stage.

Scott Sanders
has lived an unreasonable life.

One man should not be kidnapped twice, struck by lightning, confined in a Yugoslavian insane asylum, surrounded by baboons, and professionally upstaged by his own dog, while the rest of us are struggling to come up with a decent story about parking.

Fortunately, Scott has turned his run-ins with chaos into A Storyteller’s Wild Life, a hilarious, neurotic, and deeply human memoir-in-stories and — persuasive evidence that the universe has been picking on him personally. He remains unconvinced that the title adequately describes his experience. These stories, absurd and emotional, chaotic and comic, are unified by one core sensibility: he is a lightning rod for “you can’t make this up” experiences. Joseph Campbell once said, “If you’re going to have a story, have a big story — or none at all.” For better or worse, Scott has thirty-two.

At least. An acclaimed live storyteller, Sanders has appeared in multiple Moth GrandSLAMs and Moth Mainstage events, as well as storytelling and comedy venues throughout San Francisco, Oakland, New York, Los Angeles, Washington DC and Portland. You may have heard him on the radio. He has been a regular contributor to NPR’s wildly popular Snap Judgment and has been featured on The Moth Podcast. The secrets inside of us emerge in the telling of our tales, and we all have stories to tell. One person shouldn’t have this many stories. Fortunately, Scott Sanders does.
